Prices vary by county, contractor, and what's actually wrong. The ranges below are realistic for 2025; treat them as a sanity check, not a quote.

Pumping

$325–$550 for a standard 1,000–1,500 gallon tank. Add $75–$150 if the tank has to be uncovered, more if access is difficult.

Inspection (real-estate transaction)

$300–$550 for a full inspection with lids opened and components checked. A bundled inspection-and-pump is sometimes cheaper than buying both separately.

Minor repair

$200–$1,200. Replacing a baffle, a riser, an effluent filter, a damaged lid, or a section of pipe between tank and field.

Drainfield replacement

$6,000–$15,000+ depending on size, soil conditions, whether a mound is required, and county fees. Mounded systems and engineered designs run higher.

Full system replacement

$10,000–$25,000+ for tank plus drainfield. Advanced treatment units (sometimes required near sensitive waters) can push this higher.

What moves the price

  • Access: a tank under a paver patio costs more than one in an open yard
  • Permitting timelines and county fees
  • Whether the design has to account for a high water table or limited soil depth
  • Coastal corrosion concerns for tank materials

Always get more than one quote, and ask each contractor to itemize permit fees, design fees, and warranty separately from labor and materials.
